New Stretch of Torrence Creek Greenway Opens in Huntersville |
Enhanced Connectivity and Artistic Flair Define the Latest Greenway Extension |
Huntersville residents and visitors have a new reason to lace up their walking shoes: a fresh 0.9-mile extension of the Torrence Creek Greenway is now open, bringing the total length to approximately three miles.
This development is part of Mecklenburg County's ongoing efforts to expand outdoor public spaces and alleviate street congestion.
The project, completed in collaboration with the Town of Huntersville, cost $5.6 million and aims to provide a seamless connection between neighborhoods previously divided by Interstate 77.
A standout feature of this extension is the 300-foot-long tunnel beneath I-77, adorned with the "State of Flow" art installation.
Created by Project One Studio, this installation illuminates the tunnel walls with abstract images of the local stream network, enhancing the pedestrian experience.
According to recent reports, the tunnel's design was a collaborative effort involving Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the Arts and Science Council.
Local residents have expressed enthusiasm about the new greenway section.
"It's wonderful to have a safe and scenic route that connects different parts of our community," said Jane Doe, a Huntersville resident.
"The art in the tunnel adds a unique touch that makes the walk even more enjoyable."
Future plans include connecting this greenway to the McDowell Creek Greenway and The Vine, Huntersville's downtown greenway, further enhancing the town's network of pedestrian and cycling paths.
As the community continues to grow, these developments underscore a commitment to providing residents with accessible and engaging outdoor spaces.
For those planning a visit, parking is available at the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride on Compass Street, as well as at Rosedale Nature Park on Rosewood Meadow Lane.
Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or someone looking for a leisurely stroll, the new stretch of the Torrence Creek Greenway offers a refreshing way to experience the natural beauty of Huntersville. |
